Welcome to the new website. The site will help to keep you up to date on our plans for the OBC Journal, make available archives of published articles, allow you to give us feedback, and offer help if you want to know how to send in an article, how to subscribe, or other information.
The OBC Journal has always been a collaborative project, as we rely on people to send in articles, support us financially with their subscriptions and offer help in other ways, such as transcribing and proofreading.
The new Obcjournal.org. website gives us new ways in which supporters can contribute. The site has been set up so that anyone can take on responsbility for managing small sections of the web site, such as archiving articles, and even aspects of the design. Please look at the 'Offering help' page to see how you can contribute.
Comments can be posted directly on the 'Our plans' page so you can let us know how you feel about the plans to move towards a digital version of the Journal over the next few years.
The Spring issue of the Journal has been sent to the printers and should be mailed out by mid-April.
The Journal was sent to the printers on the 30th November, and is on track to be mailed out at the beginning of Jan. 2012.
The Journal monks will be on retreat from the 8th Dec until the 16th Dec. so won't be able to reply to emails at that time.
Our best wishes to our readers for the New Year.
The winter edition of the OBC Journal is on target to get to the printers by the end of November and should reach subscribers by the end of December.
The deadline for us to receive news for the Winter issue will be Nov. 2nd.
We would like to hear if you plan sending an article in by 2nd November, and they need to be finalised by 20th November.
We hope to get the Journal to subscribers by mid-late December.
This year we will be producing a combined Summer/Autumn issue rather than a separate Autumn issue.
This years conclave is hosted in September at Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey, and as the Journal monks will both be involved we realised we would not manage to get the Autumn issue out on time. Instead we have produced a larger (30 pages longer) issue for Summer, and we hope the Winter issue will be longer too.
Best wishes
Rev. Berwyn
We hope to get the Spring issue of the Journal to the printers by the end of April, and it should be mailed from the middle of May.
We have a link to a new Journal diary page if readers wish to check when the Journal is due out and other information. With best wishes, Berwyn.
Our thanks to those volunteers who have helped the Journal over the years. One of the Shasta Abbey congregation has been generously giving her time to keep a Journal index going over the years, and this has now been smoothly handed over to another volunteer - who is going to use the same indexing software (Cindex). It may take us a while to figure it out, but we intend to make more comprehensive indexes available as part of the Journal archive on the Index of articles page.
Recently a reader submitted an article reflecting on work and retirement. We sometimes have Journal issues that revolve around a particular theme that readers can relate to. For example, the articles based around the theme 'My Home Altar' published last summer, were very popular (they are available from this site in the 'Articles archive'). Work and retirement seemed like it could be a good one.
